Fordi enda graafikCosworth re-designed this part of the engine to try to improve the low & high end power of the engine yet still keep the excellent mid-range.
It alters the resonance of the inlet by either making it smaller or larger to improve the charging of the engine at different RPM's.
Which basically means more air is fed into the engine.
Theoretically, to get it to work exactly as a BOB ECU does on WOT you would need at least 2 RPM Window Swiches but in practice it is the Mid Range that gains the most torque. The BOB ECU does different things with VIS when the engine is under less load, but under less load we don't need max power ;D
The gains at very low and very high RPM are hardly noticeable, (see graphs), so it is only worth worrying about 3250 - 5000, especially on an engine which spends most of it's time with the throttle wide open, or closed like a competition car ;D
